Acne Scaring

Deep, nodulocystic acne causes inflammation deep within the skin. Once this deep inflammation resolves, the healing process can sometimes result in depressed scars. Scars range from deep “ice-pick” type scars, to more rolling depressed areas. Acne scars can become more noticeable as we age, and the skin loses collagen and elastin. Prior to treatment of any acne scars, it is imperative to control the inflammatory acne first. In the most severe cases, this may require accutane. Once the acne is under control, there are many effective treatment strategies for acne scarring, depending on the scar type.
